Local Attractions are: Martinique Beach, Nova Scotia's longest sandy beach. This most popular beach is in summer never crowded. The beach is 6 km long, great place to walk. Towards Sheet Harbour there is beautiful Taylor Head Beach Provincial Park, great beach for kids and hikers. Nearby Clam Harbour Beach with its annual Sandcastle Festival held every year August 10th and Lawrencetown Beach - the best surf in North America.

The Musquodoboit Trailway. From Musquodoboit Harbour to Gibraltar Rock. This trail winds along the Musquodoboit River all along the tracks of the former limestone train.

There are plenty of benches to rest on the 15 km long hiking trail and several loops where one can climb high enough for spectacular views.
The Railway Museum in Musquodoboit Harbour is also - Visitor Information Centre.
Fisherman's Life Museum. This tiny Nova Scotian fisherman's home from the early 1900 is located at Oyster Pont almost next door to the Salmon River House. Visit the house once lived in by the Myers family who brought up their 13 daughters in this unbelievable small space.
Historic Village -Heritage Village, Nova Scotia's living-museum of the 1940's is located in Lake Charlotte, approx. 10 Min away from Salmon River House.
